The Blue Eyes List: How Jeffrey Epstein Built a Eugenics Program Around Eye Color and Elite Genetics
[Research Flair] β Primary sources: DOJ/SDNY EFTA corpus
Overview
Among the hundreds of thousands of documents released by the DOJ in the Epstein case, a small cluster of files reveals something that has received almost no systematic analysis: Jeffrey Epstein maintained a curated list of approximately 70 prominent scientists, technologists, and public intellectuals β categorized by professional field and annotated, person by person, with their eye color. Blue eyes predominated. The list was explicitly tied to a proposed event at the 92nd Street Y in New York titled "Homo Sapiens 2.0."
This post traces the full evidentiary arc: from the list itself, through the intellectual framework Epstein used to justify it, to the active solicitation for a "designer baby and human cloning company," to an investigator's finding that Ghislaine Maxwell told at least one victim she had been chosen because Jeffrey liked her blue eyes.
These documents do not prove a completed program. They do establish something important: Epstein's eugenics interest was not a casual philosophical position. It was operational β organized, documented, scientifically staffed, and applied to both the selection of intellectual donors and the selection of potential victims.
Part I: The List
Three Versions, One Purpose
Three documents in the EFTA corpus (EFTA01192599, EFTA00583600, EFTA00583606) contain what appears to be three iterations of the same working spreadsheet. Each is titled "92nd St Y potential list." Each catalogs individuals by name, professional category, and eye color. Each version shows slight differences in composition and counts, suggesting active curation over time.
EFTA01192599 β the earliest or most conservative version β reads at the top:
"92nd St Y potential list
Total β 70 people
Blue eyes β 41
Unclear (might be blue, but not 100% sure) β 2"
The list that follows includes, among others:
| Name | Field | Eye Color (as annotated) |
|---|---|---|
| George Church | GENETICS PIONEER | blue |
| Eric Lander | MEDICAL PIONEER | blue |
| Freeman Dyson | PHYSICIST | blue |
| Craig Venter | GENETICS PIONEER | blue |
| Elon Musk | INNOVATION TECH | blue |
| Peter Thiel | INNOVATION | blue |
| Danny Kahneman | PSYCHOLOGIST | blue |
| Eric Kandel | NEUROSCIENTIST | blue |
| Grigory Perelman | MATHEMATICIAN | blue |
| Marcus Feldman | GENETICS PIONEER | blue |
| Ralph Adolphs | NEUROSCIENTIST | blue |
| Roger Scruton | PUBLIC INTELLECTUAL | blue |
| Marty Seligman | PSYCHOLOGIST | blue |
| Andrew Wiles | MATHEMATICIAN | blue |
| Bob Langer | BIOCHEM PIONEER | blue |
| Nathan Myhrvold | INNOVATION TECH | blue |
| Vint Cerf | INNOVATION TECH | blue |
| Murray Gell-Mann | PHYSICIST | (not annotated β dark eyes) |
| Martin Nowak | COOPERATION | (uncertain in this version) |
| Jim Watson | GENETICS PIONEER | (not annotated in this version) |
| Ray Kurzweil | FUTURIST | "Blue ??" |
| Andrew Klaber | YOUNG PIONEER | "Might be dark blue/hazel" |
| Christof Koch | NEUROSCIENTIST | "Seem blue" |
| Lewis Lapham | MEDIA | "Blue/hazel" |
| Ned Phelps | ECONOMIST | "Might be blue" |
| A physicist (unnamed in row) | PHYSICIST | "Hazel/blue??" |
| Steve Post | PSYCHOLOGIST | "Might be blue??" |
For individuals where the annotator was uncertain, the hedging is explicit β "Seem blue," "Might be dark blue/hazel," "Hazel/blue??," "Might be blue??" β which makes the confident "blue" annotations for the others more, not less, deliberate.
EFTA00583600 β a revised version β shows a notable expansion. The count shifts to "Total: 63 people, Blue eyes: 49." Several names have been added with confirmed blue-eye annotations that did not appear in the first version:
| Name | Field | Eye Color (added in v2) |
|---|---|---|
| Larry Summers | (no field listed) | blue |
| Bill Gates | (no field listed) | blue |
| Marvin Minsky | AI | blue |
| Danny Hillis | INVENTOR | blue |
| Seth Lloyd | QUANTUM MECHANICS | blue |
| Martin Nowak | COOPERATION | blue (now confirmed) |
| Jim Watson | GENETICS PIONEER | blue (now confirmed) |
EFTA00583606 β a third version β notes "Total: 70 people, without Asians: 61 (also excluded Indians) / Blue eyes: 44." The parenthetical exclusion is significant. It explicitly states that the high blue-eye ratio is computed after filtering out persons of Asian and South Asian descent β populations where blue eyes are essentially absent. The filter is not incidental. It is methodological.
The list also includes an entry for "Gunter Wagner" annotated as "GENETICS PIONEER | ?" β one of the few individuals whose eye color the annotator could not determine.
What the Field Categories Tell Us
The professional categories used across all three versions β "GENETICS PIONEER," "MEDICAL PIONEER," "BIOCHEM PIONEER," "NEUROSCIENTIST," "PHYSICIST," "MATHEMATICIAN," "INNOVATION TECH," "YOUNG PIONEER," "EDUCATION INNOVATOR," "PSYCHOLOGIST," "COOPERATION," "THEOLOGIAN" β are not the categories a talent agency, speaker bureau, or academic conference organizer would use. They are the categories of someone building a curated gene pool. The functional question embedded in this taxonomy is not "who would give a good talk?" but "who represents an elite example of this type of mind?"
The disproportionate presence of genetics and biology professionals β Church, Venter, Watson, Lander, Feldman, Bustamante β alongside the explicit blue-eye annotation of nearly all of them is not coincidental.
Part II: The Event β 92nd Street Y, "Homo Sapiens 2.0"
The list's header identifies its intended occasion: a 92nd Street Y event called "Homo Sapiens 2.0."
This event is confirmed in a separate document. EFTA00998824 contains an email from George Church to "jeffrey E." (Epstein's personal email address, jeevacation@gmail.com), dated October 14, 2014:
"Nov 24, 2014 92nd Street Y's 'Homo Sapiens 2.0' Lexington avenue at 92nd Street, Buttenwieser Hall, NYC. I'll be speaking 8:15 pm."
Church was forwarding this to Epstein along with his upcoming New York visit schedule. The email begins: "My next 3 visits to NYC are listed below. Meghan will help with scheduling." The scheduling assistant (Meghan Radden) was copying Epstein on the coordination. Church was a featured speaker, and Epstein was being kept closely informed β or was involved in organizing β the event.
The event title β "Homo Sapiens 2.0" β is not a metaphor. It is a reference to the transhumanist goal of deliberately engineering the next iteration of the human species. At a 92nd Street Y program framed under this title, with George Church (Harvard's preeminent synthetic biologist and founder of the Personal Genome Project) as a featured speaker, the intellectual context is unambiguous.
The convergence of the event, Church's direct communication with Epstein, and the list β which bears the event's name as its header β places Epstein in an organizational or selective role relative to "Homo Sapiens 2.0" attendees, not merely as a donor or spectator.
Part III: The Science of Blue Eyes β Forwarded Directly to Epstein
Two months after the 92nd Street Y event, a focused email chain about the science and evolutionary theory of blue eyes was circulating among Epstein, Martin Nowak (Harvard professor of mathematics and evolutionary biology), and Moshe Hoffman (an evolutionary game theorist at Nowak's Program for Evolutionary Dynamics).
EFTA02716577/EFTA02716578 preserve the seed of this chain: an email from Moshe Hoffman to Martin Nowak, with Jeffrey Epstein copied, dated January 13, 2015, subject line quoting Nowak himself:
"moshe has some cool ideas about blue eyes and hand shakes!"
Nowak had apparently told Epstein about Hoffman's work and initiated the introduction. The topic β blue eyes β was the explicit reason Epstein was being connected to this researcher.
EFTA02513790 (a continuation of the chain) shows what Hoffman sent Epstein directly. He forwarded a Quora answer about the evolutionary function of eye color:
"Brown eyes protect the retina from harmful uv-light, much the same as dark skin protects you from skin cancer in sunny climes. However, this comes at a price, the melanin blocks some visible spectrum light from entering the eye too; particularly light towards the blue end of the spectrum. This means it is harder to see at night... In areas where in winter it may be night for 12 hours a day or longer, good night vision is crucial, and uv protection less so β hence scandinavia is famous for blue eyes."
This is framed as directly responsive to Epstein's inquiry. The message thread establishes that Epstein had posed a question β about the purpose or advantage of blue eyes β and Hoffman was providing the scientific answer.
EFTA02513825 shows a further response from Hoffman later that same day, forwarding a blog post by Steve Sailer citing Greg Cochran's domestication theory of European phenotype diversity:
"Greg Cochran's theory is that just as selecting for new personality traits in wild animals that you are trying to domesticate often introduces new physical looks, the famous diversity of looks among Europeans (red and blond hair, blue, gray, and green eyes) are by-products of natural selection for new personality traits favorable to survival in Europe. Blue eyes, for example, might possibly be a by-product of selection for something like shyness."
Epstein's explicit question about blue eyes, Martin Nowak's facilitation of the connection, and Hoffman's same-day response with two explanatory frameworks β evolutionary night-vision advantage and the Cochran domestication/phenotype theory β constitute a documented, active intellectual exchange about the heritability and selective value of blue eye coloration. This was not a passing curiosity. It was structured inquiry.
Part IV: The Baby Ranch and the Nobel Sperm Bank
The intellectual interest in blue eyes and elite genetics was not merely theoretical. Multiple independent sources, reported in the New York Times on July 31, 2019, described a concrete plan.
EFTA00018441 (an SDNY news clips digest preserving the NYT article in full) reports:
"On multiple occasions starting in the early 2000s, Mr. Epstein told scientists and businessmen about his ambitions to use his New Mexico ranch as a base where women would be inseminated with his sperm and would give birth to his babies, according to two award-winning scientists and an adviser to large companies and wealthy individuals, all of whom Mr. Epstein told about it."
The ranch in question was the 33,000-square-foot Zorro Ranch outside Santa Fe, New Mexico. The scale of the envisioned program was explicit: "Mr. Epstein's goal was to have 20 women at a time impregnated" there. The plan was disclosed across multiple occasions and venues β at his Manhattan townhouse in 2001, at a 2006 Virgin Islands conference, and at dinner parties.
Jaron Lanier, the virtual-reality pioneer, described a conversation at one of Epstein's dinner parties in which a scientist told him that Epstein's goal was to have 20 women at a time impregnated at Zorro Ranch. The same scientist β a NASA researcher whose name Lanier could not recall β told him:
"Mr. Epstein had based his idea for a baby ranch on accounts of the Repository for Germinal Choice, which was to be stocked with the sperm of Nobel laureates who wanted to strengthen the human gene pool. (Only one Nobel Prize winner has acknowledged contributing sperm to it. The repository discontinued operations in 1999.)"
The Repository for Germinal Choice was a real institution, founded by physicist Robert Graham in Escondido, California. It operated from 1980 to 1999 and explicitly sought to collect the sperm of highly intelligent or accomplished men for use in artificial insemination. Epstein's plan was explicitly modeled on it β but with one critical difference: rather than collecting sperm from multiple donors, Epstein intended to be the sole donor.
The article also reported that Lanier formed the distinct impression that Epstein's Manhattan dinner parties β to which "some guests were attractive women with impressive academic credentials" β were being used "to screen candidates to bear Mr. Epstein's children."
These accounts appeared in the same July 31, 2019 NYT article preserved across EFTA00018441, EFTA00018466, EFTA00069926, and EFTA00069900 β multiple independent copies in SDNY news digests, each confirming the article's circulation within the prosecution.
Southern Trust: DNA Analysis as a Registered Business Activity
The same article adds a crucial detail about Epstein's corporate structure. His Virgin Islands-incorporated company, Southern Trust, disclosed in a local filing that it was "engaged in DNA analysis." This is not a description of a hobby. It is a registered business activity β the formal, corporate articulation of Epstein's genomics interest.
Southern Trust also sponsored a science and math fair for school children in the Virgin Islands in 2014 β the same year Church forwarded the "Homo Sapiens 2.0" speaking schedule to Epstein.
Part V: From Theory to Transaction β Bryan Bishop and the Designer Baby Company
The abstract eugenics interest became a documented funding solicitation in 2018. EFTA01003966 is an email from Bryan Bishop to Epstein, dated August 5, 2018:
"Attached is the doc you requested, it's the 'use of funds' spreadsheet for the designer baby and human cloning company. This gets us out of our self-funded 'garage biology' phase to the first live birth of a human designer baby, and possibly a human clone, within 5 years. Once we reach the first birth, everything changes and the world will never be the same again, much less the future of the human species. Attached doc shows ~$1.7m/year for up to 5 years + $1m for lab setup. (~$9.5m to fund 5 years, $6m for 3 years)."
Epstein's reply: "no rush."
Bishop, who at the time was involved in DIYbio and open-source biohacking, followed up on August 28, 2018 (EFTA02625608):
"Just put this together: http://diyhpl.us/bryan/designer-babies-deck.pdf
[Subject: Re: new genetic editing deck]"
And when Chinese biophysicist He Jiankui announced in November 2018 that he had created the world's first CRISPR-edited babies, Epstein forwarded the New York Times article to Bishop (EFTA01015238). Bishop replied that he had live-transcribed the He Jiankui press conference and Hong Kong summit Q&A while watching, and linked his own transcript. The exchange suggests that Epstein and Bishop viewed He Jiankui's achievement not with horror, as most of the scientific community did, but as a milestone.
Part VI: Blue Eyes and Victim Selection
The most direct connection between Epstein's eugenic interest in blue eyes and his conduct toward victims appears in EFTA00097133, an internal DOJ investigator email from March 2020. The email concerns a woman who reported being recruited by Epstein and Maxwell at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan.
The investigator's summary reads:
"In the interview, she said she asked why Epstein chose to sponsor her, and Maxwell (the interview uses the pronoun she, and in context I think that's what she's referring to) told her it was because Epstein liked her beautiful blue eyes, and Jeffrey liked blue eyes."
This document is not from a victim filing or media report. It is an internal investigator's communication within the SDNY prosecution team, discussing a potential witness and whether agents should pursue an interview. The blue-eyes statement is offered as a detail from a podcast interview the subject had given, noted by the investigator as specifically noteworthy and interview-worthy.
The parallel is exact: the same man who maintained a 70-person list of blue-eyed elite scientists for a "Homo Sapiens 2.0" event β who in January 2015 received scientific explanations of the evolutionary advantages of blue eye pigmentation from a Harvard behavioral economist β was also, according to Maxwell's own account to a victim, selecting women and girls in part based on their eye color.
Part VII: The Network β Church, Lander, Watson, Nowak
The named scientists on the 92nd Street Y list are not random. They represent Epstein's sustained inner circle of scientific relationships.
George Church (Harvard/MIT/Broad) β listed on all three versions as Genetics Pioneer, blue eyes β was a speaker at the "Homo Sapiens 2.0" event and maintained direct email communication with Epstein as late as October 2014 (EFTA00998824). Church had been publicly associated with Epstein since the 2011 revelations about Harvard's Program for Evolutionary Dynamics, to which Epstein donated $6.5 million. A 2019 news report quoted Church saying he had met with Epstein after the 2008 sex offense conviction because Epstein was a "potential donor" β a position Church later called an error in judgment (EFTA00046963).
Eric Lander (Broad Institute, later Biden's Science Advisor) β listed on all three versions as Medical Pioneer, blue eyes β was a co-founder of the Broad Institute and among the architects of the Human Genome Project.
Jim Watson (DNA's co-discoverer) β listed as Genetics Pioneer, with blue eyes confirmed in the EFTA00583600 version β had a direct personal relationship with Epstein. Epstein invoked Watson in a February 2016 email to Noam Chomsky about race and IQ, noting that Watson had "told me that after one sentence he became an un-person" after his controversial remarks on race and intelligence were made public (EFTA02472774). Epstein presented Watson's experience as evidence that "making things better might require accepting some uncomfortable facts."
Martin Nowak (Harvard, Program for Evolutionary Dynamics) β listed as Cooperation, blue eyes confirmed in v2 β was the intermediary who connected Epstein to Moshe Hoffman specifically around the topic of blue eyes in January 2015 (EFTA02716577). Nowak ran the Program for Evolutionary Dynamics β the Harvard program Epstein funded with $6.5 million β and appeared as a core participant in Epstein's 2009 conference planning (EFTA02523959).
Craig Venter (Human Genome Project, Celera Genomics) β listed as Genetics Pioneer, blue eyes β decoded the human genome and was among the most prominent figures in commercial genomics.
Marcus Feldman (Stanford) β listed as Genetics Pioneer, blue eyes β is one of the world's leading population geneticists, specializing in cultural and biological transmission.
Carlos Bustamante (Stanford) β listed as Genetics Pioneer with the annotation "LATIN" beside his name β is one of the few entries where the annotator appears to have tracked ancestry alongside eye color, and notably omitted a blue-eye annotation.
Part VIII: The Dershowitz Lunch and the Aryan Comparison
The NYT article preserved in EFTA00018441 includes one additional passage of direct relevance:
"Alan M. Dershowitz, a professor emeritus of law at Harvard, recalled that at a lunch Mr. Epstein hosted in Cambridge, Mass., he steered the conversation toward the question of how humans could be improved genetically. Mr. Dershowitz said he was appalled, given the Nazis' use of eugenics to justify their genocidal effort to purify the Aryan race. Yet the lunches persisted."
This passage is notable in two respects. First, Dershowitz β who maintained one of Epstein's longest-running legal and personal relationships β explicitly invoked the Nazi eugenics comparison in describing what Epstein was proposing at his own lunch table. Second, his revulsion did not end his attendance. The lunches persisted.
Part IX: The Chomsky Correspondence β "Tall People with Blue Eyes"
In February 2016, Epstein engaged Noam Chomsky in an extended email exchange about genetic determinism, race, and intelligence (EFTA02472774). Epstein shared a link to a far-right website article about race and IQ β "the test score gap amongst African Americans is well documented. 20 years of testing. many countries" β and invoked James Watson's experience as evidence that certain "uncomfortable facts" were being suppressed.
Chomsky's reply was pointed. In the course of pushing back on Epstein's framing, he used a specific example to illustrate the irrelevance of average group statistics to individual assessment:
"I don't see the importance (except on ugly assumptions), any more than it would be important to show that tall people with blue eyes on average do better (or worse) in answering questions on tests."
The incidental choice of "blue eyes" as the exemplary physical trait β in a response to Jeffrey Epstein β is striking, even if Chomsky's intent was dismissive of exactly the kind of phenotype-focused thinking Epstein was pursuing.
What the Documents Do Not Prove
This post documents what the EFTA corpus establishes. It does not document what has not been confirmed:
- No document confirms that the Zorro Ranch baby ranch plan was ever implemented. The NYT article notes "there is no evidence that it ever came to fruition."
- No document confirms that the 92nd Street Y "Homo Sapiens 2.0" event was organized by Epstein rather than merely attended or tracked by him. Church's email says he will be speaking; it does not say Epstein organized the event.
- No document confirms that the designer baby / cloning company ever received Epstein's funding. The Bryan Bishop solicitation documents a pitch; Epstein's reply ("no rush") is not a commitment.
- The blue-eyes annotations on the 92nd St Y list are in an unknown hand. The list is undated; it is not on letterhead; it is not signed. It was produced in discovery. Its author is not confirmed by name in the document itself.
- The identity of the victim in EFTA00097133 is redacted. The Interlochen statement is quoted from a podcast interview the subject gave. The investigator's characterization of who "she" refers to (Maxwell) involves interpretation, as the investigator's own caveat acknowledges.
These caveats are important. The evidence is compelling and convergent, but it is not conclusive proof of an implemented program.

Closing
The 92nd Street Y "potential list" is not a guest list. It is a catalog. Seventy people β the overwhelming majority blue-eyed, the blue-eye fraction rising across successive revisions as darker-eyed individuals are edited out β organized by field, curated for genetic fitness. The event to which the list is attached is titled, without euphemism, "Homo Sapiens 2.0."
The same man who maintained this catalog was, in parallel: receiving evolutionary science briefings on the heritability of blue eye pigmentation from a Harvard behavioral economist introduced by his Program for Evolutionary Dynamics director; planning a "baby ranch" at his New Mexico property explicitly modeled on the Nobel Prize sperm bank; operating a corporate entity in the Virgin Islands with "DNA analysis" as its disclosed business purpose; and, according to Ghislaine Maxwell's own reported explanation to at least one victim, selecting women in part because "Jeffrey liked blue eyes."
These are not separate stories. They are the same story, viewed from different angles.
The question this corpus raises β and does not answer β is how many of the people on the list knew what it was.
