Research Corpus Note: This document draws on the DOJ Epstein Files corpus. The DOJ Epstein Files release spans approximately 3.5 million pages across ~900,229 unique documents. Of these, text was successfully extracted from 900,196 documents (covering virtually the full corpus) through OCR and PDF text-extraction processing. All EFTA citations refer to documents in this extracted corpus unless otherwise noted.

Evidence Tier: A — Multiple primary documents directly corroborating contact: confirmed dinner attendance, calendar entries naming Thiel across 2014–2016, email traffic establishing co-host status, financial document linking Thiel Capital investment vehicles to Epstein's network, and Epstein's contact card for Thiel. Evidence of joint meetings with intelligence-connected figures (Bill Burns, Boris Nikolic). No victim allegations.

Who They Are

Peter Andreas Thiel (born October 11, 1967) is a German-American technology entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and conservative-libertarian political activist. He is co-founder of PayPal (1998) and co-founder and chairman of Palantir Technologies (2003), a data analytics and surveillance contractor that has supplied intelligence tools to the CIA, NSA, FBI, and ICE, among other government agencies. Through his venture fund Founders Fund, Thiel was an early investor in Facebook, LinkedIn, Spotify, SpaceX, and dozens of other companies. He was the first outside investor in Facebook, purchasing a 10.2% stake in 2004 for $500,000.

Thiel was a member of the Steering Committee of the Bilderberg Group and has served on the boards of Facebook (until 2022), Palantir, and Valar Ventures. A Stanford Law graduate (1992) and former law clerk, he co-authored The Diversity Myth (1995) with David Sacks and later published Zero to One (2014) with Blake Masters. His political activities include funding J.D. Vance's Senate campaign, contributing $1.25 million to the Donald Trump 2016 super PAC, and providing major funding for the opposition research lawsuits against Gawker Media, which resulted in Gawker's bankruptcy in 2016.

Through his interconnected business and investment networks, Thiel occupied a unique position at the intersection of Silicon Valley, government intelligence contractors, and the political apparatus that would define American policy through the late 2010s and into the 2020s. His partner companies — chiefly Palantir — became synonymous with mass surveillance infrastructure. The Epstein files document a substantive multi-year relationship between Thiel and Epstein spanning at minimum September 2014 through April 2016, encompassing private meetings, shared social dinners with intelligence-adjacent figures, and Epstein's attempt to broker Thiel into Moscow-linked innovation conferences.

Connection to Epstein — Overview

Peter Thiel's connection to Jeffrey Epstein is documented across at least six distinct categories of primary evidence: (1) confirmed attendance at the August 2, 2015 "Baume dinner" in Palo Alto alongside Epstein, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Joichi Ito, Reid Hoffman, and others; (2) email correspondence establishing Thiel as a co-host of that dinner alongside Hoffman; (3) calendar entries placing Thiel in private meetings with Epstein in September 2014, including a joint meeting also attended by Bill Burns — at that time a senior U.S. diplomat and future CIA Director; (4) a separate calendar entry on the same September 2014 day scheduling a Thiel meeting alongside Boris Nikolic, Epstein's trusted science adviser; (5) Epstein's active attempt in June 2015 to broker Thiel into a meeting with Russian government official Sergey Belyakov concerning a Moscow "innovation conference"; and (6) a confirmed in-person lunch at Thiel Capital's San Francisco office on April 8, 2016. Epstein also maintained a contact card for Thiel in his personal address book.

The relationship is contextually notable given that Palantir — Thiel's primary operational company — was already a significant CIA-linked surveillance contractor by 2014, and Bill Burns (present at the September 2014 Thiel–Epstein meeting) was among the most senior U.S. intelligence-adjacent diplomats in government. Separately, Boris Nikolic — Epstein's science adviser, Bill Gates confidant, and the individual named as executor of Epstein's 2017 will — appears in the same September 2014 scheduling documents as Thiel.

Documented Role in the Epstein Investigation / Network

Peter Thiel appears in the Epstein files primarily as a high-value social contact maintained across multiple years, with meetings brokered by Epstein or his assistants to intersect Thiel with politically and financially significant figures. The documents show:

1. Baume Restaurant Dinner — August 2, 2015 (EFTA01749568, EFTA00344413, EFTA02073963) Epstein attended a private buyout dinner at Baume Restaurant in Palo Alto, California. The dinner was organised through Reid Hoffman's network. The guest list, preserved in primary documents, named: Jeffrey Epstein, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Joichi Ito, Reid Hoffman, and others. The restaurant was entirely reserved for this group. Subsequent email traffic from Epstein's assistant to Zuckerberg's office referred to the event as "Reid Hoffman/Peter Thiel's dinner party" (EFTA00344413), establishing Thiel and Hoffman as the event's co-hosts rather than mere attendees.

2. September 2014 Meeting with Bill Burns — "TBD Boris, Kathy, Peter, Bill Burns" (EFTA00362297, EFTA02098524) A travel and scheduling document (EFTA00362297) contains the sequence: "TBD Depart PB in the morning / TBD Arrive NY / TBD Boris, Kathy, Peter, Bill Burns, Le..." — placing Epstein, Boris Nikolic, Kathy Ruemmler, Peter Thiel, and Bill Burns in a coordinated travel or meeting arrangement. A companion calendar document (EFTA02098524), dated September 13, 2014, adds specificity: "2–4:00pm Appt w/Peter Thiel / 3–4:00pm Bill Burns will join Jeffrey and Peter Thiel meeting / 7:00pm DINNER w/Woody Allen (JE to invite Kathy Ruemmler and Peter Thiel to dinner)." Bill Burns served as Deputy Secretary of State from 2011 to 2014 and later as CIA Director from 2021 onwards.

3. September 22, 2014 Calendar Entry — "People To See, Mon. Sept 22, 2014 NY" (EFTA00362321) A "People to See" list dated Monday, September 22, 2014 in New York explicitly references Peter Thiel. This document, formatted as a day's meeting schedule with travel context, shows Epstein's office was tracking Thiel as an active engagement target during the autumn 2014 period.

4. September 2014 Calendar — Boris Nikolic Meeting (EFTA02097099) A separate calendar entry from the same period lists: "Tana is Peter's assistant: / 2:00pm Appt w/Boris Nikolic / 3:00..." — indicating that Thiel's assistant "Tana" was coordinating an appointment that also involved Boris Nikolic. This intersects Thiel directly with Epstein's primary scientific intermediary.

5. Epstein on Thiel's Location — "Peter Thiel is with me on Fri" (EFTA02041017) In an email chain discussing politics, markets, and technology (the same correspondence in which Epstein mentions back pain), Epstein writes: "Peter Thiel is with me on Fri..." This document establishes Epstein's personal familiarity with Thiel's schedule and movements, and suggests routine social contact beyond formal meeting arrangements.

6. Russian Introduction Attempt — Sergey Belyakov, June 2015 (EFTA00632147, EFTA02343019) On or around June 30, 2015 — approximately five weeks before the Baume dinner — Epstein's office initiated contact referencing a Russian government official named Sergey Belyakov, described as organising an "innovation conference in Moscow." Epstein was positioned as a potential broker for a Thiel introduction to Belyakov. This introduction, if effected, would have connected Thiel to a Russian official through Epstein as an intermediary approximately two years before the Russian interference investigation became a dominant political narrative.

7. Lunch at Thiel Capital — April 8, 2016 (EFTA01186611) A calendar document confirms a lunch meeting at Thiel Capital, 1 Letterman Drive, Suite 400, San Francisco, on April 8, 2016. The entry is organised by "Peter Thiel Admin," indicating Thiel's office was the active organising party.

8. Contact Card (EFTA00309104) Epstein's personal address book contained a contact card for Peter Thiel, including internet/work email addresses. The presence of a dedicated contact card indicates Thiel was a tracked, maintained contact in Epstein's personal network rather than merely an incidental meeting participant.

9. Investment Network Document (EFTA00609489) A confidential portfolio/investment document references Peter Thiel and/or Thiel Capital in the context of an investment vehicle managed through parties connected to Epstein's financial network. Chunk 129 of this document specifically references "Peter Thiel (or another Thiel Person... designated by Peter) (the 'Manager')" in what appears to be a management agreement for an investment portfolio, suggesting Thiel Capital played a defined role in financial arrangements documented in the Epstein corpus.

Allegations and Claims

No victim has made public allegations of criminal sexual conduct against Peter Thiel. The allegations and concerns that arise from the documentary record are structural and relational in character:

1. Multi-year sustained relationship with Epstein The documented interactions span September 2014 through at least April 2016 — a continuous 19-month period that includes private meetings, shared dinners, travel coordination, and ongoing personal correspondence from Epstein. This is not an isolated or incidental connection.

2. Co-hosting status at the Baume dinner The description of the August 2, 2015 dinner as "Reid Hoffman/Peter Thiel's dinner party" in EFTA00344413 places Thiel in an organising role for an event Epstein attended — rather than the reverse. This framing inverts the typical "Epstein inserted himself" narrative and raises questions about the purpose and context of the gathering.

3. Joint meeting with Bill Burns during a sensitive diplomatic period The September 2014 meeting documented in EFTA02098524 placed Peter Thiel, Jeffrey Epstein, and Bill Burns (Deputy Secretary of State, 2011–2014) in the same room. Burns's presence at an Epstein-arranged gathering involving Thiel — whose primary business, Palantir, served as an intelligence contractor for multiple U.S. agencies — warrants scrutiny given Epstein's documented pattern of using such meetings for information gathering and access brokerage.

4. Russian introduction via Epstein The June 2015 Belyakov introduction attempt, brokered through Epstein, represents an attempt to connect Thiel to a Russian government official through a private intermediary operating outside normal diplomatic or business channels. Whether the introduction was completed is not established by available documents.

5. Boris Nikolic intersection Nikolic — Epstein's trusted science adviser, Harvard-connected network participant, and the executor named in Epstein's 2017 will — appears in the same September 2014 scheduling documents as Thiel. Their joint appearance in Epstein's calendar suggests that Epstein was actively managing introductions between members of his science-and-technology network.

6. Financial document linkage (EFTA00609489) The appearance of a "Peter Thiel" management agreement in what appears to be an Epstein financial portfolio document raises questions about the nature of any investment or financial arrangement between Epstein-connected entities and Thiel Capital during this period.

This Individual's Response

Peter Thiel has made no specific public statement about the Epstein files, the DOJ document releases, or his appearances in the corpus. No spokesperson or representative has issued an official comment addressing the EFTA documents in which his name appears.

Thiel has historically been resistant to media scrutiny. His most prominent act of press retaliation was the funding of the Hulk Hogan lawsuit against Gawker Media, which he pursued secretly over approximately a decade and which he later described as "one of my greater acts of philanthropy." He has expressed a broader philosophical skepticism toward journalism and media accountability. Given this posture, the absence of public comment on the Epstein files is consistent with his general approach to press coverage but does not constitute a denial.

No criminal charges, civil suits, or formal investigations targeting Peter Thiel in connection with Jeffrey Epstein have been publicly announced as of the date of this document. Thiel resigned from Facebook's board in 2022 following reported friction over political matters, but this departure was unrelated to the Epstein files. He remained chairman of Palantir and active in venture capital and political funding activities.

DOJ File Evidence

Claim A — Baume Dinner Attendance, August 2, 2015

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅

EFTA01749568 and EFTA02073963 contain the guest list and arrangements for the Baume Restaurant private dinner on August 2, 2015. Peter Thiel is explicitly named alongside Jeffrey Epstein, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Joichi Ito, and Reid Hoffman. The documents confirm the restaurant was booked exclusively for this group: "We bought out the restaurant, so it will just be our group." Thiel's attendance is primary-document corroborated.

Claim B — "Reid Hoffman/Peter Thiel's Dinner Party" Framing

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅

EFTA00344413 (August 5–6, 2015) contains post-dinner email correspondence from Epstein's assistant to Zuckerberg's office describing the August 2 event as "Reid Hoffman/Peter Thiel's dinner party." This phrasing is significant: it names Thiel first alongside Hoffman as the event's host or organising party, not as an attendee at an Epstein gathering. If accurate, it inverts the conventional framing of Epstein as the gravitational centre of such events and positions the Silicon Valley figures as the hosts who included Epstein.

Claim C — September 13, 2014 Meeting with Bill Burns

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅

EFTA02098524 is a calendar document dated September 13, 2014, containing: "2–4:00pm Appt w/Peter Thiel / 3–4:00pm Bill Burns will join Jeffrey and Peter Thiel meeting / 7:00pm DINNER w/Woody Allen (JE to invite Kathy Ruemmler and Peter Thiel to dinner)." Bill Burns served as Deputy Secretary of State 2011–2014, the second-highest-ranking official at the State Department, and later became CIA Director under the Biden administration (2021–present). His presence at an Epstein-mediated meeting involving Thiel — the chairman of Palantir, a primary intelligence contractor — is materially significant.

Claim D — September 2014 Travel Document: Thiel, Nikolic, Ruemmler, Burns

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅

EFTA00362297 contains travel/meeting scheduling text reading: "TBD Depart PB in the morning / TBD Arrive NY / TBD Boris, Kathy, Peter, Bill Burns, Le..." — a partial list that places Thiel alongside Boris Nikolic (Epstein's will executor and science adviser), Kathy Ruemmler (Obama White House Counsel, later Goldman Sachs General Counsel — see Doc 32), and Bill Burns in a coordinated movement or meeting plan organised through Epstein's office. The document establishes that Epstein's circle during this period was deliberately intersecting Thiel with a cluster of politically and intelligence-connected figures. EFTA00362321 provides a companion "People to See" list dated September 22, 2014, confirming Thiel as an active contact during this New York period.

Claim E — Russian Introduction Attempt: Belyakov, June 2015

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅

EFTA00632147 and EFTA02343019 document Epstein's attempt to broker an introduction between Thiel and Sergey Belyakov, described as a Russian official organising an "innovation conference in Moscow." The approach was made on or around June 30, 2015 — five weeks before the Baume dinner. The combination of (1) Epstein as intermediary, (2) a Russian government official as the counterparty, and (3) a technology-focused meeting format, occurring during the period when Thiel was actively building Palantir's government surveillance contracts, raises questions that are not resolved by the available documents. Whether the introduction was completed and whether any subsequent contact occurred is not established by the corpus.

Claim F — Confirmed Lunch at Thiel Capital, April 8, 2016

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅

EFTA01186611 contains a calendar entry confirming a lunch meeting at Thiel Capital, 1 Letterman Drive, Suite 400, San Francisco, on April 8, 2016. The entry notes the meeting was organised by "Peter Thiel Admin," indicating that Thiel's office initiated or confirmed the arrangement. This is the latest documented direct contact between Thiel and Epstein's calendar, extending the documented relationship to at least April 2016.

Claim G — Investment Management Document, Thiel Capital

Verdict: PARTIAL ⚠️

EFTA00609489 is a confidential investment document with the notation "CONFIDENTIAL & TRADE SECRET" that references Peter Thiel and Thiel Capital in the context of investment management arrangements. Chunk 129 reads: "Peter Thiel (or another Thiel Person... designated by Peter) (the 'Manager')" in what appears to be a management agreement clause. The full document context (a 129+ chunk document labelled as a portfolio/terms document) does not clearly establish whether Thiel Capital was managing funds for Epstein or whether this is an investment vehicle in which Epstein was a passive participant. The document establishes a financial paper link but does not conclusively characterise the financial relationship.

Summary Assessment

Peter Thiel's presence in the DOJ Epstein corpus is substantive, primary-document corroborated, and extends across a documented 19-month window (September 2014–April 2016) with evidence of contact both before and during that period. The evidence supports the following conclusions:

  1. Confirmed sustained relationship. Thiel was not an incidental figure in Epstein's network. He appears in calendars, travel documents, dinner guest lists, personal correspondence, and financial documents across multiple years.
  2. Co-host framing is significant. The description of the August 2015 dinner as "Reid Hoffman/Peter Thiel's dinner party" positions Thiel as an organiser who included Epstein — a framing that departs sharply from the standard narrative of Epstein inserting himself into elite gatherings.
  3. Intelligence-adjacent meetings. The September 2014 meeting that included Bill Burns (then Deputy Secretary of State, later CIA Director), Boris Nikolic (Epstein's science adviser and will executor), and Kathy Ruemmler (Obama White House Counsel) represents a convergence of figures at the intersection of government power, intelligence, and Silicon Valley that is unlikely to be coincidental. Thiel's company Palantir operated at precisely this intersection.
  4. Russian introduction attempt. Epstein's role as broker for a Thiel–Belyakov introduction in June 2015 illustrates Epstein's function as a transnational access facilitator — using his network to connect U.S. technology figures with foreign officials outside normal channels.
  5. Financial document presence. The Thiel Capital management agreement reference in EFTA00609489 extends the relationship beyond social contact into documented financial domain, though the full nature of that arrangement requires further clarification.

No victim has alleged criminal conduct against Thiel. The documented relationship raises structural and access-brokerage concerns consistent with the patterns documented across other Tier A subjects in this corpus, but does not currently support allegations of direct participation in Epstein's trafficking activities.

Evidence Tier A. Seven claims, all SUPPORTED or PARTIAL.
