All EFTA citations refer to documents in this extracted corpus unless otherwise noted.

Who They Are

Ehud Barak is a former Prime Minister of Israel (1999–2001), former Defense Minister of Israel, and one of the most decorated soldiers in Israeli history. He served as Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces and was a former officer in the elite Sayeret Matkal commando unit. Following his time as Prime Minister, he remained a major political figure — returning as Defense Minister — and has been involved in various business and advisory roles.

Connection to Epstein — Overview

Barak maintained documented contact with Epstein for years, including extensive correspondence and personal visits well after Epstein's 2008 sex crimes conviction. The relationship was not merely social: Epstein used Barak to convene elite gatherings at his Manhattan mansion, inviting billionaires, media executives, senior US government advisors, and Barclays CEO Jes Staley to private dinners with Barak as the draw. Epstein also used the Barak connection to broker introductions to major oligarchs including Viktor Vekselberg, providing Barak with intelligence briefings on Russian business targets. Virginia Giuffre's posthumous memoir referenced being trafficked to a "well-known Prime Minister" who assaulted her violently — prior court filings had connected this description to Barak, though he has denied it.

Documented Contact with Epstein

  • Made documented visits to Epstein's New York City residence beginning at least 2010 and continuing through 2018 — all years after Epstein's 2008 sex crimes conviction.
  • In September 2010, Epstein hosted a private dinner with Barak as Israeli Defense Minister, inviting an elite group including Tom Barrack, Arthur Sulzberger, Steve Schwarzman, David Gergen, Len Blavatnik, Jes Staley, Tom Pritzker, Charlie Rose, and Larry Summers.
  • Epstein's assistant Lesley Groff sent personal invitations to these individuals with the subject line "Jeffrey Epstein–Ehud Barak" — confirming Barak was the draw for the gathering.
  • Epstein used Barak to provide introductions and intelligence briefings on Russian oligarchs and officials, including Viktor Vekselberg and (per internet reporting) Sergey Belyakov.
  • Correspondence between Epstein and Barak is documented as late as April 2018 — nearly a decade after Epstein's conviction.

Allegations and Claims

  • Virginia Giuffre's posthumous memoir allegation (2025): Giuffre wrote that she was trafficked to "a well-known Prime Minister" who "raped me more savagely than anyone had before," repeatedly choking her and leaving her bloodied; she feared she might "die a sex slave." She did not name the individual; prior court filings and press reporting connected the description to Barak as the Israeli Prime Minister during the relevant period. This allegation is unproven.
  • The pattern of Barak being used to convene intelligence-adjacent elite gatherings at Epstein's home is consistent with theories that Epstein's network functioned as a geopolitical intelligence operation.

This Individual's Response

  • Barak acknowledged regular contact with Epstein but denied observing or participating in any inappropriate behavior.
  • He has denied the indirect "Prime Minister" allegations from Giuffre's memoir.
  • Barak has not been charged with any crime in connection with the Epstein case.
  • His acknowledged ongoing contact with Epstein post-conviction attracted significant political scrutiny in Israel and internationally.

Key Claims for DOJ Evidence Cross-Reference

  • Claim A: Barak corresponded with Epstein and made plans to visit Epstein's NYC residence multiple times between 2010 and 2018 — well after Epstein's 2008 sex crimes conviction.
  • Claim B: Epstein used Barak as the centerpiece of elite dinners at his Manhattan home, gathering billionaires, media executives, and senior advisors.
  • Claim C: Epstein used the Barak connection to broker introductions to Viktor Vekselberg and other Russian figures, providing Barak with intelligence briefings.
  • Claim D: Virginia Giuffre's posthumous memoir references being trafficked to and violently raped by a "well-known Prime Minister"; court filings had previously pointed toward Barak.

DOJ File Evidence

Claim A — Barak corresponded with Epstein and visited Epstein's NYC residence multiple times between 2010 and 2018 — well after Epstein's 2008 sex crimes conviction

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅ — Multiple direct email documents confirmed

  • EFTA01983621 (score 0.769) — Email from Epstein dated September 16, 2010 stating "ehud barak coming to" [New York] — confirming Barak visited Epstein in 2010, two years after Epstein's conviction.
  • EFTA01942215 (score 0.769) — Email from Jeffrey Epstein to "ehud barak" dated December 11, 2013, reading: "are you coming to ny??" — direct personal email five years after conviction.
  • EFTA02048707 (score 0.769) — Email to "Barak & Associates, L.L.C. Barak, Ehud" dated July 13, 2016 — confirming ongoing post-conviction correspondence in 2016.
  • EFTA02225072 (score 0.770) — Email dated October 2, 2017, to "Barak & Associates, L.L.C. Barak, Ehud," from Epstein's office: "Jeffrey will be in NY Oct 6-9...might Ehud be around and available for a visit? Please let me know." Nine years after conviction.
  • EFTA00841830 (score 0.704) — Email from Epstein to "ehud barak" dated April 7, 2018 — the latest confirmed direct contact, nearly a full decade after Epstein's 2008 conviction.

The corpus provides exceptionally strong confirmation. Multiple direct emails spanning 2010–2018 document an ongoing relationship maintained entirely within the post-conviction period.

Claim B — Epstein used Barak as the centerpiece of elite dinners, gathering billionaires, media executives, and senior advisors at his Manhattan home

Verdict: SUPPORTS ✅ — New primary source documentation in expanded corpus

  • EFTA00298515 (score 0.845) — The highest-scoring hit in the search: an invitation document for a private dinner at Epstein's home on Tuesday, September 21 [2010], stating: "Jeffrey Epstein is having Ehud Barak, the Israeli Defense Minister, over to his house on Tues night the 21st. very private, no agenda." The invitation list includes: Tom Barrack, Arthur Sulzberger, Steve Schwarzman, David Gergen, Len Blavatnik, Jes Staley, Tom Pritzker, Charlie Rose, and Larry Summers. The notation shows outreach status for each (Spoke & emailed, etc.).
  • EFTA02421326 (score 0.819) — Lesley Groff's outreach to Tom Pritzker on September 16–17, 2010 with the subject "Jeffrey Epstein–Ehud Barak": "Jeffrey Epstein is having Ehud Barak, the Israeli Defense Minister, over to his house on Tues night the 21st. very private, no agenda. he thought you might like to join in." Pritzker replies he is in China but will try to attend.
  • EFTA02421173 (score 0.838) — Lesley Groff's outreach to Len Blavatnik with the same "Jeffrey Epstein–Ehud Barak" subject on September 16, 2010. Blavatnik replies that he cannot attend but says "many thanks and say hello to Jeffrey."
  • EFTA02421274 (score 0.810) — Same dinner invitation, sent to an additional recipient (Thursday, September 16, 2010).

This is a remarkable primary source record: Epstein used Barak's presence as Israeli Defense Minister to convene a private, undisclosed gathering of some of the most powerful people in American finance, media, and government at his East 71st Street mansion.

Claim C — Epstein used the Barak connection to broker introductions to Viktor Vekselberg and other Russian figures, providing intelligence briefings

Verdict: SUPPORTS (for Vekselberg)

  • EFTA00841830 (score 0.704) — The April 7, 2018 email from Epstein directly to "ehud barak" contains a detailed intelligence briefing on Viktor Vekselberg: "Viktor Vekselberg is being designated for operating in the energy sector of the Russian Federation economy. Vekselberg is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renova Group... In 2016, Russian prosecutors raided Renova's offices and arrested two associates of Vekselberg... please note." The one-way briefing format suggests Epstein is providing Barak with intelligence about Vekselberg — consistent with using Barak as an intermediary or preparing him for contact. The timing (around US sanctions designations) makes this intelligence exchange significant.
  • EFTA02809437 (score 0.799) — JPMorgan civil case document noting that "Epstein facilitated an introduction between JPMorgan executives and Ehud Barak, and Staley directed his team to follow up" — confirming Epstein's role as an introduction broker using Barak as the conduit, with Jes Staley (Barclays/JPMorgan) as one of the recipients.

The Sergey Belyakov (Russian government official) connection was not confirmed in the corpus documents returned; the Vekselberg intelligence-sharing is directly confirmed.

Claim D — Virginia Giuffre's posthumous memoir references being trafficked to and violently raped by a "well-known Prime Minister"; court filings had previously pointed toward Barak

Verdict: NOT FOUND / INCONCLUSIVE

The posthumous memoir (Nobody's Girl, October 2025) postdates the corpus. No document directly confirming the "well-known Prime Minister" description or explicitly connecting it to Barak was found in semantic search.

This claim is unproven. The allegation originates in the posthumous memoir and prior civil court documents. The extensive documented post-conviction relationship between Barak and Epstein (Claim A) and the private gatherings at Epstein's home (Claim B) constitute contextual background, but do not confirm the specific assault allegation.

Summary Assessment

The Barak-Epstein relationship is among the most significant international dimensions of the Epstein case confirmed by the corpus. The expanded corpus reveals a new and striking dimension not in the earlier profile: Epstein used Barak's presence as Israeli Defense Minister to host undisclosed private gatherings of top American financiers, media figures, and government advisors — including Steve Schwarzman, Tom Pritzker, Jes Staley, Larry Summers, and Charlie Rose. Combined with Epstein's role briefing Barak on Russian oligarchs under US sanctions scrutiny, the picture is of a geopolitical intelligence brokering function that the Barak relationship served for Epstein.
