Individual Profile — Sarah Ferguson

profile v1 Updated Mar 11, 2026

Research Corpus Note: This document draws on the DOJ Epstein Files corpus (the "EFTA" corpus). The DOJ Epstein Files release spans approximately 3.5 million pages across ~900,229 unique documents. Of these, text was successfully extracted from 900,196 documents (covering virtually the full corpus) through OCR and PDF text-extraction processing. All EFTA citations refer to documents in this extracted corpus unless otherwise noted. Additional post-corpus developments (post-February 2026) are noted where relevant and assessed separately.

Evidence Tier: C — Peripheral documented contact. Ferguson appears in the corpus primarily through her financial entanglement with Epstein (accepted money brokered via Prince Andrew's office), her presence in Epstein's address book and contact list, and — most significantly — documented participation in a coordinated Epstein-directed PR crisis management operation in 2011. She is not a crime participant or investigative subject. Her corpus presence is thin but not trivial.

Who They Are

Sarah Margaret Ferguson (born 1959), styled the Duchess of York following her 1986 marriage to Prince Andrew, Duke of York (second son of Queen Elizabeth II). The marriage ended in divorce in 1996, though Ferguson and Andrew maintained an unusually close post-divorce relationship, continuing to share a residence and co-parenting their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Ferguson is a British public figure — author, charity ambassador, and media personality — known for persistent financial difficulties throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Her connection to Epstein arose primarily through Prince Andrew's long-standing friendship with Epstein and, secondarily, through a 2010 financial scandal in which Ferguson was found to have accepted money from Epstein to pay off personal debts.

Connection to Epstein — Overview

Ferguson's connection to Epstein is a function of three distinct elements:

  1. Prince Andrew's relationship with Epstein. Andrew was among Epstein's most prominent social associates. Ferguson's post-divorce proximity to Andrew — they continued to live together and vacation together — placed her in Epstein's social orbit for years.
  2. A 2010 financial payment. Ferguson accepted money from Epstein — reported as $24,000 (U.S.) or £15,000 (U.K.) depending on the reporting — to settle a debt she owed to a former personal assistant. The money was brokered through Prince Andrew's office. When the arrangement was reported by British media in 2010, Ferguson publicly acknowledged it, called it "a gigantic error of judgment," and committed to repaying Epstein.
  3. Coordinated PR crisis management in 2011. The corpus documents a sustained effort by Epstein — working through his own attorneys and Ferguson's PR firm, Pelham Bell Pottinger — to shape Ferguson's public statements about him. Epstein personally drafted and edited talking points that Ferguson then delivered in media interviews. This is the most substantive documented connection between Ferguson and Epstein in the EFTA corpus.

Ferguson is listed in Epstein's address book (the "Holy Grail" of contacts, per press accounts) and her personal mobile number appears in a 2011 email contact list in the corpus. A September 2009 email asks Epstein to provide apartment accommodations for Ferguson during a New York City stay.

Documented Role in the Epstein Investigation / Network

Ferguson was not a subject of the Epstein criminal investigation and played no documented role in his trafficking network. Her corpus presence is primarily that of a peripheral social contact whose name arose in connection with Prince Andrew's relationship with Epstein and the 2010 financial scandal.

Direct corpus evidence:

  • EFTA00769994 (Sep 2009): An email from an unidentified sender to Epstein's personal Gmail account (jeevacation@gmail.com) states: "Sarah Ferguson would ideally [nee]d 4 apts during her stay in ny from the 11–24." The writer asks Epstein whether apartments are available and whether Ferguson can use them. This establishes that Ferguson's logistical arrangements in New York were being routed through Epstein's office.
  • EFTA00916496 (Aug 2011): An email chain headed "Call List" — sent to Epstein — includes Ferguson among the contacts: "Duchess of York (Ferg): +447768 151215(p)." Her personal mobile number appears alongside Seth Lloyd, John Brockman, and Catherine Calder in what appears to be a curated list of contacts assembled for Epstein.
  • EFTA02682806 (circa 2010): A tabloid news clip (identifiable as a New York tabloid by layout and byline) reporting Ferguson's admission. The article states she "admitted she took cash from pervert billionaire Jeffrey Epstein in a mini-bailout brokered through Prince Andrew's office," that Epstein "coughed up $24,000 to pay off money owed to a former Sarah assistant," and that Ferguson said Epstein helped after speaking to her ex-husband, "who 'sorted out my debts.'" Ferguson called her acceptance of the money "a gigantic error of judgment." The article notes Epstein is "a Level 3 sex offender who was recently sprung from jail."
  • EFTA01199174 (2011): A Palm Beach Daily News article about Epstein's address book reports that "British papers also have reported that Ferguson accepted £15,000 from Epstein. The money was paid to her former assistant, who claimed Ferguson owed him unpaid wages and other bills. Ferguson has since told the Mail and other British papers that she made 'a gigantic error of judgment' in accepting the money from Epstein and that she will pay him back." The same article notes that flight logs show Epstein flew to the Bahamas in 1988 to meet Ferguson and her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, then aged approximately 9 and 10.
  • EFTA01086552 (circa 2010): A newspaper article on civil litigation against the government's non-prosecution agreement with Epstein also reports on his royal connections. It states that "flight logs show Epstein flew to the Bahamas in 1988 to meet Ferguson and her daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, then ages 9 and 10" and that "Prince Andrew secured permission for Epstein to land his private jet on Dec. 7, 2000, at a military base to visit the Duke of York at Sandringham Palace."

Allegations and Claims

No allegations of criminal conduct have been made against Ferguson in connection with Epstein. The documented concerns relate to:

  1. Financial entanglement: Accepting a personal debt payment brokered through Epstein — publicly acknowledged and characterized as a lapse in judgment.
  2. Coordinated messaging on behalf of Epstein: The most noteworthy corpus evidence is Ferguson's documented participation in Epstein's 2011 PR operation. The EFTA corpus contains a full email chain showing Epstein personally coordinating talking points delivered by Ferguson in public interviews:
  3. EFTA01838512 (March 13, 2011): Epstein emails his own lawyers — Paul Tweed (Johnsons Law), Mike Sitrick (crisis PR consultant), Martin Weinberg (criminal defense attorney), and Darren Indyke (longtime attorney) — writing: "I think that Fergie can now say, I am not a pedo.. She was DUPED into believing false stories, by Civil Plaintiffs Attorneys from Florida. They represented themselves as law enforcement (listen), and she was told horrible things and she reacted. She now knows that what she was told was based on false hoods, and fabrications designed to enhance [civil litigation]." This language was drafted by Epstein for delivery by Ferguson.
  4. EFTA01869696 (April–May 2011): A multi-email chain between Epstein (jeevacation@gmail.com), James Henderson (Managing Director, Pelham Bell Pottinger), and the Duchess of York. Henderson sent Epstein a proposed public statement for Ferguson. Epstein replied with edits, personally revising the wording to state that he "has always been there for me" rather than "sought to help me." The agreed script that Ferguson was instructed to deliver publicly if asked about Epstein stated: "As has been widely reported Jeffrey Epstein helped me out financially by paying part of a debt for me. I have known Jeffrey for many years and he has always been there for me. Given Jeffrey's conviction I appreciate it was unwise for me to accept this money and I will be repaying it. He pleaded guilty many years ago to a prostitution crime, not a crime of pedophilia as has been the tabloids exaggeration. He has asked for forgiveness and paid his debt. I have nothing more to say." Henderson confirmed to Epstein that Ferguson had delivered these talking points in multiple media interviews.
  5. EFTA02339536 (May 24, 2011): Henderson emails Epstein confirming Ferguson had given several interviews and made the agreed comments. Henderson also states: "I think in the first para we should be clear that the Duchess never said he was a paedophile in any way" — indicating ongoing message management.

The characterization of Epstein's crimes as a "prostitution crime, not a crime of pedophilia" — and the word "exaggeration" applied to reporting about the underage victims — was formulated by Epstein's own PR and legal team and delivered publicly by Ferguson as scripted.

This Individual's Response

Ferguson publicly acknowledged accepting money from Epstein and described it as "a gigantic error of judgment." She committed publicly to repaying the money. The scripted language she used in 2011 interviews — characterizing Epstein's conduct as "not pedophilia" and dismissing media coverage as "exaggeration" — was, the corpus confirms, language drafted for her by Epstein's own team. Whether Ferguson was aware of the full scope of Epstein's crimes at the time, or was indeed, as Epstein wrote, "DUPED" into a more charitable characterization, is not resolved by the corpus. Her PR firm (Pelham Bell Pottinger) was communicating directly with Epstein about her messaging strategy; she was CC'd on the relevant email chain.

Ferguson has not made additional public statements specifically addressing the EFTA corpus revelations. Her post-divorce relationship with Prince Andrew continued to attract scrutiny following Andrew's own Epstein-related controversies, including his 2022 civil settlement with Virginia Giuffre and his subsequent loss of royal duties.

Legal and Professional Consequences

None documented. Ferguson faced no legal proceedings related to Epstein. The 2010 financial scandal generated significant British tabloid coverage and reputational damage, but no investigation. Ferguson's primary reputational exposure from the EFTA corpus is the revelation that the carefully modulated language she delivered in 2011 media interviews was drafted by Epstein and his own attorneys — not independently formulated.

Summary Assessment

Sarah Ferguson is a Tier C figure in the Epstein corpus — peripheral to the criminal network, documented primarily as a social contact with a financial entanglement and a significant reputational exposure from the 2011 crisis management operation. She accepted money from Epstein, acknowledged the lapse, and pledged repayment.

The most material EFTA corpus finding is not the financial transaction itself but the documented coordination: Epstein personally drafted the language Ferguson used in public media interviews to minimize his crimes and characterize underage victim reporting as media "exaggeration." The talking points flowed from Epstein to his lawyers to Ferguson's PR firm (Pelham Bell Pottinger) and were confirmed delivered. Ferguson was CC'd on the coordination chain. The characterization of his crimes as "not pedophilia" and the dismissal of press coverage as "exaggeration" were Epstein's own formulations, not Ferguson's independent assessments.

Ferguson was not a subject of criminal investigation, was not alleged to have participated in Epstein's trafficking network, and has not been named in civil proceedings related to Epstein. Her connection is through Andrew, proximity, and the financial and PR episode documented above.

The widely reported quotes attributed to Epstein describing Ferguson as "a legend" and "a spectacular and special friend" were not located in the extracted EFTA corpus in this research review.
